The time has finally come for an all-new version of the legendary icon that is the Toyota Supra. What started over four decades ago as a sporty trim level for the Celica has undergone a lot through the years to bring us to this point, 18 years after it was discontinued, with the 2020 Toyota Supra in Moline IL. This high-performance sports care is more incredible than any iteration before, and perhaps the sportiest vehicle to ever grace the Toyota production lineup.
The Toyota Supra was first introduced to North America in 1979, but in Japan and other nations it was known either as the Celica XX or Celica Supra. In 1981 the Supra was redesigned for its second generation, and then again in 1986 for its third – when it officially became the Toyota Supra internationally. That generation lasted until 1993 which is when the fourth and “final” iteration was introduced and ran all the way until the model was surprisingly discontinued in 2002.
Fast forward 18 years and we give you the 2020 Toyota Supra from Gazoo Racing, and the legacy continues. Available in three trim levels to start with – 3.0, 3.0 Premium and the Launch Edition – the Supra is offered in nearly a dozen exterior color options, including some two-tone styles. With a 50:50 weight distribution and a 3.0L twin-scroll turbocharged inline six engine, you know the Supra delivers impressive performance and handling alike.
The Supra’s powertrain generates 335 horsepower alongside 365 pound-feet of torque, which combined with its 3,397-pound curb weight allows the machine to hit 60 miles per hour in 4.1 seconds and continue onto a top speed of 155 mph. But the 2020 Supra, contrary to appearances, isn’t a racecar. So, it’s packed with great content like safety tech, entertainment features, comfortable seats and so much more.
