The Toyota 86 is one of the more exciting vehicles on the Toyota lineup. While the brand has made some iconic performance cars through the years, there aren’t many on the lineup currently. Until the Supra officially makes its triumphant return, the 2019 Toyota 86 in Moline IL is the high-performance highlight of the lineup. Even with that in mind, the 86 is relatively minimal. There are only two trim levels giving shoppers limited options, but that changes this year with he introduction of a brand-new trim level.
The new trim? A TRD Special Edition, of course. Toyota Racing Development has been making special edition trim levels for Toyota vehicles for years. They’re most notable for the TRD Pro Series, enhancing the Tacoma, Tundra & 4Runner for off-road dominance. But now, they make the 86 even more equipped to take on the track.
What sets the TRD Special Edition apart from the model’s other two trim levels? For starters, a host of design enhancements. On the outside, the 86 TRD SE will only be available in a Raven exterior paint color, complete with a TRD tricolor graphic and plenty of badging. Exclusive wheels and Michelin tires will also complete the outside. Inside, plenty of black and red accents throughout. The seats have contrast stitching, of course, and unique red seatbelts really make the cabin pop.
Of course, perhaps more excitingly, several performance enhancements have made their way into the vehicle as well. Things like SACHS dampers and Brembo brakes might not change the vehicle’s power ratings, but they will enhance performance and handling for the vehicle. If you’re interested in one of these incredible, limited vehicles, you’ll want to act fast as only 1,418 units will be built. Let us know right away if you’re interested!
